The one tool I use to overcome my fears.

Something you may not know about me...heights frighten the heck me. 😳 It's a "so nervous I can't talk" feeling, hands clammy, fake smile & staring blankly ahead because I can't even unravel my own thoughts, weak at the knees nervous.

Recently on a trip to Northern Ireland, we stopped at the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and all of those feelings rushed in. The one good thing (& day-saver!) was that we had a breathtakingly beautiful, long walk on a stone path along the coast until we got to the actual bridge.

With each step of the stone stairway on this coastal walk, I spoke my calming and confidence-boosting affirmations to myself.

  • "I am confident in myself."

  • "I will not stand in my own way."

  • "I have nothing to be afraid of."

  • "I am strong."

  • "I believe in myself."

  • "All of my worries are floating away."

By the time we reached the bridge, I was nervous...with excitement! I couldn't wait to get to the island on the other side...and then to cross BACK over the bridge. With the wind blowing like crazy, the bridge swaying with the wind & each step I took, and even having to stop halfway across the bridge because the gust was too much and I lost one of the hand ropes 😱, I made it! What a rush it was! I couldn't stop smiling the rest of the day and I was so proud that I actually pushed myself past that silly little doubt.

Pushing past my fear was one of the first things I learned in my journey to become a more confident me (& eventually a Life Coach 😊) Taking time to figure out where the fear was coming from, why it was taking over so much of my life, and slowly taking steps to move past these have been a life-changer for me.

If you haven’t used affirmations before, I highly recommend giving it a go. The biggest thing with affirmations is that you have to find what resonates with YOU. That one little sentence that will inspire you, calm you, center you, ground you, get you ready for whatever you are about to tackle.

Whatever that is (and yes, you can have multiple affirmations) write it down, keep it in FRONT of you, read it every single day, and soon, you will be UNSTOPPABLE!
